Speaking on The Harry Redknapp Show, Robbie Keane has been speaking about Dele Alli and the fact his value has gone down over the past 12 months.

Keane and Redknapp were having a rather in-depth conversation about the fact that Directors of Football and Chairman make more transfer decisions at clubs these days, meaning that some expensive signings are often left on the bench, meaning that their value diminishes.

Keane then pointed out that someone like Dele Alli is in a similar situation, claiming that a year ago he would have been worth up to £80m, but after being frozen out by Jose Mourinho he needs to get his value back up.

What’s been said?

Redknapp and Keane were speaking about the way transfers happen in modern football.

“It’s happening everywhere now Rob, it’s happening everywhere, even Frank he didn’t know much about some of the players who came in at Chelsea,” Redknapp said.

“If you don’t play them they lose their investment don’t they? They do like it it if the chairman or whoever brings them in and you don’t play them their value goes down, and it’s an impossible situation really, but that’s how it’s gone.”

Keane then said that Alli is in a similar situation at Spurs.

“It’s the same as with Dele isn’t it? A year ago he was £70-80m, and then you heard a lot of whispers that he needs to play to get his value back up and then when Ryan came in at the end of the season he was back in the team,” Keane said.

Sadly true

Unfortunately, Keane may be right about Alli’s value dropping over the last 12 months.

He’s played hardly any football, he’s scored a small number of goals and he’s not looked as this best.

Of course, he’s still a talented player, but calling Alli an £80m footballer sounds ridiculous in this day and age.

Luckily, Alli is still only young and if he can rediscover his best form under Nuno Espirito Santo we could again be talking about one of the most valuable players in the country.
