Celtic are now in advanced talks to bring Nicholas Kuhn to Scotland for around £3 million with the Premiership champions hoping that a medical could be on the cards this weekend.
Rapid Vienna director Markus Katzer admitted earlier this week that ‘every player has his price’. And it seems that Nicolas Kuhn’s ‘price’ stands at 3.5 million euros.
HITC Football understands that, after Katzer appeared to open the door to Celtic, The Hoops are set to stride right through it.
Talks between Rapid Vienna and the Glasgow giants are now at an advanced stage. Celtic are also hoping to bring Kuhn in for a medical as early as this weekend before putting the finishing touches on a package which could set them back around £3 million.
Celtic close in on Nicolas Kuhn deal
24-year-old Kuhn, capped by Germany at youth level, has scored three goals and set up seven more during an impressive campaign in Austria. Once of Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Ajax, the left-footed right winger will arrive in rather timely fashion, with fellow wideman Daizen Maeda jetting out to Qatar to represent Japan in the Asian Cup.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers had already made it clear that – if Celtic’s attacking ranks were diminished during the winter – he would look to delve into the market for reinforcements.
“Obviously we have been trying to anticipate the guys over the last few months who are going away to the Asian Cup,” Rodgers said in December. “Then, we would have to do something in the market.”
Another winger for Brendan Rodgers’ collection
The likelihood is that, with Maeda unavailable for the time being, Celtic could line up with Kuhn cutting in from the right and Luis Palma doing the opposite on the other flank.
The Premiership leaders could also look to bring in a centre-forward. HITC has been informed that, amid links with Bojan Miovski, Sydney van Hooijdonk, Szymon Wlodarczyk and Mathias Kvistgaarden, Hearts frontman Lawrence Shankland is a name on Celtic’s radar.
