Roy Keane told ITV Sport on Sunday afternoon that Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson shouldn’t be going to the Euros with England.

The outspoken TV pundit thinks Henderson’s situation, in regards to not being fit, is a ‘distraction’ and even Liverpool won’t be happy about his current situation.

England take on Romania in a friendly today, with Henderson named as a substitute – He is set to come off the bench for his country after not playing a single minute against Austria last time out.

And Keane didn’t hold back in what he’s hearing about Henderson and why the currently unfit midfielder is part of the Three Lions squad.

“It’s already a distraction for Jordan,” said Keane. “I was convinced that Jordan was going to start the other day. I know there’s talk that he’s going to come on after 45 minutes.

“But why not start him for the first 45 minutes where there is more intensity? In the second half, there will be plenty of changes. I think it’s a huge distraction. Clearly, Jordan’s not fit. I don’t think he should be involved.

“He cannot be fit. But to have not kicked a ball for three and half months then go to a European Championships. He cannot be right.

“Now, I have heard people say that they want him around the place. For what? Does he do card tricks? A sing-song? Quizzes in the evening? What does he do? If you’re Liverpool then you wouldn’t be happy either.”

With someone like James Ward-Prowse not getting picked for the final 26-man squad, it does beg the question as to why he wasn’t just selected after his stellar campaign in Southampton colours?

From his ability to play in a two-man midfield, box-to-box, have excellent use of the ball and a brilliant set-piece taker. He should have been selected.

Then there is the issue with Harry Maguire also not being fit and it puts England in a problem if they start off their Euro 2020 campaign in a sticky fashion.

Even if Henderson had played the last few games of the Premier League season, then you take a player of his calibre, no doubt.

But will he even start any of the group games? If not then he’s a waste and someone else should have been picked in his place. The same applies for Maguire at the back.
