Sexuality, identity, and mental health are the subject matter of Year of the Fox, a feature film from director Megan Griffiths and writer Eliza Flug which has just wrapped filming and moved into post-production. The film examines the dark underbelly of a wealthy Aspen-based family through the eyes of adopted seventeen-year-old Ivy. As Ivy watches her parents’ marriage dissolve, she struggles to find her own path in life.
A coming-of-age tale with a dark resonance, Year of the Fox is based on experiences screenwriter Eliza Flug had while growing up in Aspen, Colorado in the late nineties. The film’s fictionalized account of Aspen circa 1997 presents characters and themes with starting relevance to life in the 2020s. Director Megan Griffiths (Eden, Lucky Them, The Off Hours) brings Flug’s screenplay to life with expert skill.
The film, which is produced by Eliza Flug, Lacey Leavitt, and Jennifer Roth is currently in post-production. Shot in Washington State, Year of the Fox is set in Aspen, Colorado in the year 1997. It follows the story of Ivy (Sarah Jeffery), a seventeen-year-old who was adopted into a wealthy family as an infant. Her parents Paulene (Jane Adams) and Huxley (Jake Weber) are going through a bitter divorce.
While Ivy’s mother is planning to relocate to Seattle, her father tries to tighten his grip on her by inviting Ivy and her friend Layla (Lexi Simonsen) into Aspen’s bacchanalian party scene. Ivy finds herself increasingly alone, and she becomes the perfect target for a predatory & charming older man (Balthazar Getty). With her relationships in disarray, Ivy comes to realize how much she really has at stake.
Lead actress Sarah Jeffery is currently a series regular on the CBS/CW show “Charmed,” and she recently starred in the Disney Channel’s Descendants trilogy. Jane Adams is a Tony and Drama Desk Award winning actress who’s also earned Golden Globe and Emmy nominations.
Jake Weber has thirty years of experience which includes films like Dawn of the Dead and shows like 13 Reasons Why. Balthazar Getty is an actor, writer, director, producer, musician, and philanthropist who’s made notable appearances in Lord of the Flies, David Lynch’s Lost Highway and Twin Peaks, as well as shows like Alias and Brothers and Sisters.
The supporting cast is rounded out by Amanda Brugel, Arden Myrin, Mariano González, Sabrina Haskett, Alma Delfina, and Linas Phillips.
