Rangers or Celtic must be mystery club pursuing Patrick Berg

Rangers have two new faces coming in this summer, whereas Celtic are still in turmoil… are both teams interested in Patrick Berg?

The Gers have Nnamdi Ofoborh and Fashion Sakala arriving on pre-contract agreements, whereas Celtic don’t have a manager or director of football in place.

It’s unclear just who is in charge of Celtic’s business right now, but they may well be interested in Berg if reports from Norway are to be believed.

Who is Patrick Berg?

Berg, 23, was born in Bodo and is now a key part of the Bodo/Glimt side having spent his entire career with the club.

He helped Bodo win the Eliteserien title last year, playing predominantly as a holding midfielder. Berg also has four caps for Norway.

Berg has hit 10 goals and nine assists in 133 games for Bodo, with work rate, mobility around the pitch and his passing range in front of the back four his key attributes – something Celtic may need with Scott Brown now gone.

Rangers or Celtic must be interested in him

VG in Norway report that teams in Scotland want to sign Berg, and a fee of around 15 million kroner – around £1.3million – has been suggested.

Rangers and Celtic are the only clubs in Scotland realistically able to pay that kind of money for Berg, so it’s surely one of the Old Firm sides – or possibly both.

We’d give the nod to Celtic given their need for a holding midfielder, but it’s unclear whether Ofoborh will be a key part of the Rangers side next season, so don’t rule them out.
