A quick recap of season 2 episode 9
The Legend of Vox Machina season 2 episode 9 was titled ‘A Test of Pride’ and featured a Grog manically murdering smallfolk with a group of mercenaries in a flashback to his childhood.
Cut back to the present, Pike, Scanlan, and Grog finally reach Westruun; where Scanlan decides to scout ahead, only to run into a fellow gnome called Kaylie. She reveals that she is part of Dr. Dranzel’s Traveling Troupe, and is hiding from the dangers lurking in the shadows with other locals.
Grog is worried about his flashback and explains to Pike just how brutal his history is with the Herd of Storms; however, encountering a cowering Wilhand changed his mind about the Herd’s behavior. Grog was then left for dead after being beaten by his uncle Kevdak using the Titanstone Knuckles Vestige. Wilhand gets Pike to heal Grog as Grog was kicked out of the Herd for saving Wilhand.
Meanwhile, Umbrasyl and Ripley arrive at the city and berate Kevdak for lowering the amount of gold that they could receive; Umbrasyl threatens Kevdak that he has just three days to increase the tribute or Umbrasyl will steal the Vestige.
Grog and Pike manage to sneak into the city to find Scanlan and help him evacuate the survivors, many of whom are still terrified of Grog. As the refugees reach the main gates, Grog decides that he needs to stand up for the herd if he is to get passed his nasty history and just as Kevdak starts to attack his son, Grog arrives to challenge him with the hope of taking the Titanstone Knuckles Vestige.
