UAE royal family member commends China-UAE Youth Football Match and Climate Action Comic Exhibition



(ECNS) — Sheikh Alharith Hamed Al Qasimi, a royal family member of Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), attended the China-UAE Youth Football Match and Climate Action Comic Exhibition on Sunday, praising the event as an exemplary collaboration between the UAE and China in addressing global climate change.

The China-UAE Youth Football Match and Climate Action Comic Exhibition serves as a significant side event for the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) held in Dubai.

Dignitaries, including Sharjah royal family members Sheikh Mohammed Jamal Al Qasimi, Sheikh Alharith Hamed Al Qasimi, and Sheikh Sayed Bin Al Qasimi, as well as representatives of overseas Chinese living in Dubai, youth from China and the UAE, and representatives of Chinese enterprises, attended the event.

The Climate Action Comic Exhibition, themed “Low Carbon,” advocates for reduced carbon emissions and envisions a low-carbon future. Local youth from Dubai visited the exhibition.

Meng Xiangyun, a 7-year-old Chinese girl living in Dubai, showcased her artwork titled “Protecting the Earth” at the comic exhibition. Despite her young age, Meng’s piece expressed elements closely related to ecological civilization, such as afforestation, green transportation, and waste sorting.

“All the comics at the exhibition look very good. We need to plant more trees to protect the Earth in the future,” said Meng.

Sheikh Mohammed, highlighted in a speech that sports and art are universal languages that transcend cultural differences and language barriers, fostering emotional connections among people from different countries. As COP28 is going on in Dubai, hosting a friendship football match and comic exhibition with a green and low-carbon theme is not only creative but also poised to attract a broader audience.

In an interview with China News Network, Sheikh Alharith emphasized that the event not only showcases successful cooperation between China and the UAE in addressing climate change but also signifies that the relationship between the two countries will continue to develop to a higher level.

Sheikh Alharith said China and the UAE mutually support each other in addressing climate change, expressing optimism about the future prospects of cooperation between the two countries.

The Climate Action Comic Exhibition has garnered widespread attention worldwide since the call for submissions. Over 300 entries from around the world were collected, with the youngest artist being 3 years old and the oldest 72. 

After evaluation, 100 selected works were exhibited at the COP28 China Pavilion and simultaneously showcased on chinanews.com, starting from November 30.
