UFC 264: McGregor vs Poirier predictions and fight odds
The UFC holds its first Las Vegas event with a live crowd on July 10 at T-Mobile Arena. The pay-per-view card, which streams on ESPN+, is UFC 264. The third fight between former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor and ex-interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier headlines the event.
McGregor vs Poirier first faced off in September 2014 at the featherweight limit of 145 pounds. McGregor won that contest by TKO at 1:46 of the first stanza. The closing odds for the first meeting between the two saw McGregor enter the UFC octagon as the -260 favorite over Poirier, who was the +215 underdog.
The second meeting between the two took place at UFC 257 and was contested at the lightweight limit of 155 pounds. Poirier walked away with the victory after he finished the fight via TKO at 2:32 of Round 2.
McGregor was a bigger favorite at the start of the rematch. He was -333, while Poirier was the +245 underdog. The early odds for the trilogy fight are much closer. McGregor opened as a -175 favorite over Poirier, who was a +150 underdog. As the fight approaches, the odds have evened and both fighters are listed at -110.
In the co-main event, two-time UFC welterweight title contender Stephen Thompson is favored over Gilbert Burns, who is coming off a loss to current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
UFC Vegas 264 takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The PPV main card streams on ESPN+ following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+ and early prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ESPN+.
Below are the early odds for the entire UFC 264 fight card.
Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier Preview
Dustin Poirier has passed at an opportunity for a shot at the UFC Lightweight Title in favor of a trilogy fight with the biggest drawcard that the sport has ever seen and who blames him!
The winner of this fight will be assured a shot at Charles Oliveira next anyway I would assume.
Conor took the first fight way back in 2014 when both fighters were in their infancy in the promotion and Dustin leveled the score at one apiece just five months ago.
It is an interesting fight to attempt to break down and there are many facets of MMA that favor both fighters but ultimately Conor McGregor will need to produce something different if he is to win this fight.
If he is going to rely on his excellent movement and counter-punching as his main methods to victory, then he is again a puncher’s chance in anAs opening couple of rounds.
This is something that has worked for McGregor throughout his career and his gas tank has not been tested because of that brutal left hand.
But he has spent just 192 seconds inside the octagon in the past 26 months and unless he brings something new to the table, I see this one going the same way the last fight did or Poirier winning a decision.
