The past year has been a devastating one for movies with the Covid-19 pandemic forcing films to move online or delay their release dates.
Ryan Reynolds-starring Free Guy is one such film to face several delays but now it finally looks like the film will be heading to our screens after the release of a new trailer.
But where will the film be available to watch when it releases? Here’s all we know.

Free Guy: Plot and cast
Starring Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer, Free Guy tells the story of a bank teller named Guy who is actually a non-playable character (NPC) in an open-world video game named Free City.
Thanks to a program developed by Jodie Comer’s Milly, Guy becomes aware of his video game surroundings and vows to save the day when the virtual world he inhabits is threatened.
Joining Reynolds and Comer in the cast are Lil Rey Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Joe Keery, Taika Waititi and Camille Kostek.
Where to watch Free Guy and release date
- Free Guy will be available exclusively in cinemas when it releases in the US and UK.
After being originally scheduled to arrive in July 2020, Free Guy’s release date is currently slated as August 13th in the US and here in the UK.
On top of that, the film has a number of release dates depending on the country in question with arriving a few days earlier in the likes of France and Italy (August 11th).
Is Free Guy available to stream?
- No, Free Guy is not currently slated to release on any of the major streaming services at the time of writing.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Free Guy will have a 45-day exclusive run in cinemas before it is made available on any of the digital streaming services to help give the moviegoing business a boost after the past year.
As the film is distributed by 20th Century Studios, who are owned by Disney, Free Guy will likely be made available on the Disney-owned Hulu or Disney+ platforms when it eventually comes to streaming services, although that is unconfirmed just yet.
Free Guy will be available exclusively in theaters when it releases on August 13th, 2021.
