Why did Cisco leave The Flash? Let’s get Carlos Valdes’ season 7 exit explained and consider whether the actor will return.
Over the years, The Flash has grown to become one of the most beloved superhero shows in recent memory.
Developed by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns, the American series premiered on The CW back in 2014, serving as a spin-off from Arrow and continuing to expand the Arrowverse.
Audiences were welcomed back into the fold with season 7 back in March 2021 and it’s been a rather overwhelming batch of episodes so far, with one of the latest bombshells involving Carlos Valdes’ character.
So, why did Cisco leave The Flash and will he be back?
Why did Cisco leave The Flash?
- Cisco left The Flash because Carlos Valdes felt that it was the right time to wrap things up with the character.
During an interview with TV Line, the 32-year-old actor revealed that he has been thinking about bringing Cisco’s arc to a close as far back as season 4:
“… right around Season 4, I started debating what the end for this character might look like. So, that seed was always there, but it didn’t really start becoming a reality until much later on — like, the end of Season 5, Season 6, where I started to become more comfortable with the idea of, ‘Oh, I think there’s a good way to put an end to this chapter.’”
Rumours of him leaving emerged a number of seasons ago but he publicly denied them, continuing to reprise the role across later seasons.
Looking back, Carlos is one of the performers who has been aboard the Arrowverse the longest, having made an impression debuting in Arrow season 2.
It’s likely that the actor wishes to pursue some other opportunities, as he has been on The Flash for a whopping seven seasons now.
Saying goodbye to Carlos Valdes
It was also announced at the same time back in May 2021 that Tom Cavanagh (who plays Harrison Wells) is leaving too.
Eric Wallace – executive producer and showrunner of The Flash – opened up in a statement:
“Tom and Carlos have been an integral part of our show for seven seasons, and will be greatly missed. Both are incredible talents who created beloved characters that fans and audiences around the world have come to love. Which is why we are happily keeping the door open for return appearances.”
Indeed, Deadline highlights that Carlos may make an appearance in the last two episodes of season 7.
The Flash fans react
