Wolves are looking to bring Mohamed Amoura to the Premier League with the Algeria international striker in stunning form for Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise.
Royal Antwerp, last season, claimed the Jupiler League crown for the first time in 57 years. That, however, is a blink of an eye compared to the wait Union Saint-Gilloise have had to endure.
Champions most recently in 1935, USG are six points clear of Anderlecht in top spot with Mohamed Amoura the driving force behind a potentially historic title.
Amoura, a £3.5 million signing from Swiss side Lugano last summer, has 13 goals in just 15 league matches. 17 in 25 across all competitions. Amoura grabbed a goal and an assist as Union Saint-Gilloise secured a famous Europa League win over Liverpool too, and he could find himself going head-to-head with Jurgen Klopp’s side on a far more regular basis in the near future with Wolverhampton Wanderers among his admirers ahead of the January transfer window.
Wolves like USG striker Mohamed Amoura
Wolves, Het Laaste Nieuws say, hold ‘concrete interest’ in the 23-year-old forward. Amoura has made no secret of just how much he is enjoying life in Belgium, but the chance to play Premier League football at Molineux could prove to be a stern test of his loyalty.
“I leave (the transfer talk) to my agent,” Amour tells HLN . “But I still have dreams. Playing in the Premier League, for example.
“When I was young, I often watched matches in England. Every match there is a derby. You won’t find that intensity anywhere else.”
13 goals in 15 games
Wolves, thanks largely to the exceptional form of Hwang Hee-Chan, have found goals easier to come by under Gary O’Neil than under Nuno Espirito Santo, Bruno Lage and Julen Lopetegui. Sasa Kalajdzic could leave in January in pursuit of more regular football, however, thus opening the door for Amoura’s arrival.
“He is really super fast. But his biggest advantage is his efficiency,” USG team-mate Alessio Castro-Montes explains to Het Nieuwsblad. “He really is a monster in front of goal.
“I played with Belgium’s top scorer last year (Hugo Cuypers at KAA Gent). But Amoura is a completely different type (of striker).
“It is difficult to say whether he is the best striker in Belgium. He is certainly the striker who is in the best shape.”
